Most often there is no stability or guarantee when freelance is involved. You are hired on a project basis and will be kicked to the curb once the project is complete unless you happen to earn another project right away which is rare to say the least.

To help fill the gap between those needing skilled labor and the freelancers that provide the labor there are several web sites that have sprung up. These sites allow employers to post projects of a wide variety and then the freelancers can bid on those projects. This has become an effective tool in maintaining a steady flow of work for the freelancer, but there are several downfalls to some of these sites.

For one thing, there is normally a fee that is charged for using the service.

Eidur on radar of quartet

By JOHN CROSS EIDUR GUDJOHNSEN is a target for Birmingham and Fulham after his move to Tottenham stalled.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is keen to sign the Icelandic forward (above), after he enjoyed a successful loan stint at White Hart Lane last season.

But there have been complications in renewing his loan from Monaco, which has alerted other clubs, including interest from Dubai.

Aston Villa boss Martin O’Neill is another admirer, but has set his summer sights firmly on Tottenham hitman Robbie Keane.

Monaco may also be ready to let Gudjohnsen, 31, move on permanently.

The former Bolton Wanderers and Chelsea frontman has a strong reputation as a clever player who can both score goals and drop deep to create them.

Capped 61 times by his country, he also has a proven Premier League record, making him desirable to a host of clubs

Posted on Thu ,29/07/2010 by admin

This vehicle shares its basic design and powertrain with the Chevrolet Colorado. Offered in three body styles, the GMC Canyon is a pickup to consider. This vehicle looks impressive. It also brags about a lot of power as well as a spacious interior. The cargo space is also very accommodating.

The body styles comprise of the regular cab body style, the extended cab body style, and the Crew cab body style. For regular cabs, the maximum capacity of passengers it can take in its cabin is three. The extended cab has a rear hinged back door and has the capacity to take in a maximum passenger capacity of five due to two rear jump seats. As per the Crew cab, this body style holds four doors and has a maximum capacity of welcoming in six people because of its folding rear bench. The GMC Canyon is very much suited for personal use as well as light duty use. Even if it is a pickup it probably would not be able to work well for commercial use, heavy hauling, as well as for towing functions.

The GMC Canyon has a couple of engine choices for interested parties.

(By the way, this is another good example of networking — leveraging existing relationships.)

Ideally,

you want this customer to refer you to the “lead”, so you can avoid a cold call.

But you start with a small, manageable request: you simply ask whether your customer knows the lead.

If yes, you make another small request: would your customer be willing to share some information about this lead based on their working relationship, so you can decide whether this lead is a good fit for your products/services.

Through these incremental questions and conversation, you gradually work your way up to your final question: would your customer be willing to introduce you to this lead? And when doing so, also explain to the lead why he or she was making the introduction?

At this stage, if your customer agrees, you’ve accomplished several things:

you’ve converted a “lead” into a “referral”,

you’ve avoided a cold call, and

you’ve greatly increased your chances of actually talking with this referral.

You may have also acquired useful information from your customer about this prospect, which you can use to your advantage during your conversation with the prospect.

If you notice, throughout this example,

you asked for very specific and “manageable” things

, and each time you checked in to make sure the person was in a position to give you those specific things.

Don’t tar all drivers with the same brush

0 Comments | Citizen Gloucestershire, The, Jun 2, 2010

FURTHER to my letter of May 28 regarding the piece written and published on May 22 by “Professional Motorist” about elderly drivers.

I now refer to the report about Craig Allden, aged 19, and his most interesting concerns about not only the costs of motoring, but his attempts to find affordable car insurance (Citizen, May 31, page 16).

First, I have to state that I am somewhat surprised at the figures quoted.

What does not surprise me, however, are the higher insurance premiums.

Frankly, this says it all and certainly supports my published contention regarding “Professional Motorist’s” comments of May 22 regarding elderly drivers.

Apart from the very high costs of insurance for young people, I note in the article the accident statistical figures of 10 in 1,000 for 17 to 24-year-olds compared with three per 1,000 amongst 60- year-olds. What these published occurrence figures do not show however, particularly amongst the younger set, is the seriousness of the accidents and the incidence of death resulting from them.

That is, apparently, far higher for people aged under 30.

The advice in the article offered to “young (male) drivers” from the various sources is abundantly sound.

Here is a further comparison. The car insurance figures quoted in the article for young males just for third party cover varied from Pounds 6,624 and Pounds 5,181 and for females Pounds 4,155 and a would-be Pounds 2,135 against my annual premium for comprehensive insurance of Pounds 439.

This includes some extras I have chosen to add on otherwise it would be Pounds 339. (Through the AA it would be under Pounds 300).

So, in my view, this says it all in respect of elderly drivers and once again gives the lie to your correspondent “Professional Motorist”!

As Mr Allden states: “Lads are seen as risky drivers but not everyone is like that.” This infers, as I stated in my original letter, that it is foolish to tar everyone with the same brush.

The other alternative would be to hook

Posted on Thu ,29/07/2010 by admin

The other alternative would be to hook up an external converter in between your multi-system VCR and your NTSC television, when you can view that video tape.

In converting PAL into NTSC, the point to remember is that NTSC video standard has a resolution of 720×480 and a frame rate of 30 frames per second, while PAL has a resolution of 720×576 with a frame rate of 25 frames per second. Therefore, from the above specifications, it can easily be determined that PAL has a better picture quality than NTSC, while NTSC has a better motion picture display because of its higher refresh rate.

Tenlab offers Tenlab converters which is capable of converting any of the video standards into the other.

Because of their weight and

Posted on Wed ,28/07/2010 by admin

Because of their weight and the need for plumbing and electricity, you?ll need to plan the location of your hot tub carefully. A hot tub on the patio or deck may sound wonderful ? but it will need reinforcement to carry that much weight safely. Besides structural considerations, there are practical ones that are a lot more fun to consider. Do you want it close to the house ? perhaps just outside your bedroom sliders so that you can slip in and out of it easily? Choose a spot for your backyard hot tub that gives you privacy, beauty and convenience.

- Do you want a seasonal or year-round hot tub?

You might think that soaking in a hot tub in your garden in winter is a chilling experience, but there?s something especially cozy about watching the snowflakes fall from the relaxing warmth of a garden hot tub. If you?d like to use your hot tub year round, discuss weather proofing with the construction company, and while you?re at it, consider a gazebo roof or similar protection for rainy days as well.

- What are the zoning regulations in your area?

In many townships and cities, outdoor backyard hot tubs require the same protections as swimming pools.

American ‘Bin Laden hunter’ released by Pakistan: report

AFP, June, 2010

LOS ANGELES (AFP) An American man detained in Pakistan for trying to track down and kill Osama Bin Laden has been freed and will return to the United States later Wednesday, his family told local media.

Colorado-based construction worker Gary Faulkner was released by authorities in Pakistan late Tuesday before flying home to the United States via Dubai, a relative told ABC7 News in Denver.

“They got the news late yesterday that he was coming in. So, they’re really looking forward to seeing Gary. It’s been a while,” Faulkner’s brother-in-law John Martin was quoted as saying on the network’s website.

Faulkner was detained on June 13 in the remote mountains of Chitral, once a rumored hiding place of bin Laden, near Afghanistan’s Nuristan province, armed with a…

RECALL MADNESS RISE IN FAILING PRODUCTS RESULT OF OUTSOURCING

0 Comments | Daily News; Los Angeles, Calif., Sep 6, 2007 | by SUSAN ABRAM

Amid a flurry of recalls this summer — and as Mattel braces for yet a third toy recall this week — a Daily News review of data shows that the number of recalls nationwide has soared more than 50 percent in just the past six years.

Last year, the Consumer Product Safety Commission reported 467 recalls of everything from hammocks and treadmills to coffee makers and laptop-computer batteries.

So far this year, there already have been 409 recalls of everything from sippy cups and bibs to crib bumpers and pacifiers. And that doesn’t include Mattel’s recall of eight play sets sold under the Barbie brand and three Fisher-Price toys, all of which were found to have high levels of lead.

The growing number of recalls — up from just 309 in 2000 — highlight what some say has been percolating for years: an increase in manufacturing outsourcing and consumer demand for cheaper products that is threatening to collapse product quality and safety.

“A lot of companies are outsourcing to China and, on top of that, it’s impossible for them to oversee the nitty-gritty details of production,” said Christopher Tang, professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, Anderson School of Management.

U.S. corporate outsourcing to other countries has grown by 70 percent over the past 10 years, Tang said. Nearly $1.9 trillion was spent on imported goods last year, up from $1.5 trillion in 2004, according to census data.

“Owners of manufacturers have become more hands-off. They are losing control over the quality,” Tang said. “As the supplier is pressured to lower the cost, something has to give.

“The bottom line is, you get what you pay for.”

Crook has many books on

Posted on Wed ,28/07/2010 by admin

Crook has many books on the subject or allergies and he seems a fair person. Perhaps the politics of the profession are explained in the next quote. Who CARES?! Why not help the people with this treatment?

“Allergists resemble people who belong to opposing political parties or who are members of the various religious denominations (Biblio. An 8-page review of the food allergy controversy is presented in the Medical News section of the August 12, 1983 issue of the ‘Journal of The American Medical Association? 250:701-711, 1983). Although most allergists test and treat their patients with allergy extracts, their methods differ considerably.? (3)

This is not just another billion dollar boondoggle. It impacts people and the quality of their lives in torturous ways. Beyond the issue of allergic reactions and additives that cause hives or bodily immune responses there is a whole area of environmental medicine that causes cells to enlarge when histamines generated in response to foreign agents act to inflate the size of the cells.
